PIVKA-II or AFP in HCC?

PIVKA-II (Protein Induced by Vitamin K Absence or Antagonism-II) and AFP (Alpha-Fetoprotein) are two biomarkers commonly used for the diagnosis and monitoring of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Interpreting Fibro scan result

In patients in risk factors like diabetes, metabolic illness, obesity, hepatitis B or Hepatitis C infections, a fibroscan or fibrotouch should be performed to look for fatty liver/ fibrosis / cirrhosis.

I have been receiving phone calls from my relatives and concerned patients regarding the recent news about  COVISHIELD vaccine being withdrawn from market due to blood clots. ( Since AstraZeneca has accepted a link between the vaccine and rare side effect of Thrombosis with Thrombocytopenia Syndrome -TTS). Concerned calls are mostly from people who have previously taken COVISHIELD vaccine.

After the 3rd wave of COVID it has been around a year that the world remained calm without spurts of COVID related threats. But since December 2023 Indians are been on alert for the new variant of Corona virus- namely COVID JN1 virus.
It is currently a concern and is considered as a variant of interest by World Health Organization because globally there are significant number of people infected with COVID JN1 virus.
