Rank 3 All India DNB PDCET 2024 Entrance Exam! Story of a Near Term Carrying Mother!

Dr. Sanoop Kumar Sherin Sabu M.D.,

Unlike my regular posts in this website which are focused mainly on health education, in this story I am happy to share how Dr. Irene Rose Joy, Ophthalmologist and co Founder of Your Family Doctor have secured All India Rank 3 in the PDCET 2024 Entrance Exam, which is a competitive National level exam for qualified ophthalmologists .

The journey to her success was never smooth since she was a Near term carrying mother when she attended her exam on July 2024. More difficult was the situations prior to her exam because she is the mother of an active and dynamic 2 1/2 year old boy.

Our Journey as family started way back in 2020 when we realized that we had some common elements in our life ambitions which was centered around Biblical principles and Jesus Christ, with priority for family, being together, working together, practice medical profession with morals and serve God’s Purpose in Life.

In 2021 after her graduation, when she had to join for her Post Graduation in Ophthalmology she had 2 open choices before her-

  1. Either join for 3 year DNB Ophthalmology, but in an institute far away from my working place, and stay separated or
  2. Join for 2 year Diploma in Ophthalmology near my working place and live a family life together fulfilling the foresaid priorities in life.

Though many seniors advised her to opt option 1, she courageously preferred the second option, and decided to compromise her profession for sake of family and the priorities that we had in our Christian life. There in she joined for Diploma In Ophthalmology in Acchutha Eye Care, Erode under Dr. Balasubramanian, a Retina and Phaco surgeon.

In the last 3 years, we had never regretted for our decision to compromise a 3 year completion course and do 2 year diploma training because , we had experienced wonderful times in our lives, was able to bring up our elder son Jayden with Love and care of both parents, help each other in keeping our faiths high during tough times, accomplish our missions of serving the poor in the public and Grow in our Christ centered principles of life. We were blessed with a wonderful family time at Periyar Nagar Erode where we had warm-hearted, loving, caring and encouraging neighbors who were like a family for us.

After successfully completion of her Diploma in Ophthalmology with honors, for pursuing her secondary DNB, she had to appear for another exam called PDCET National Entrance Exams. By this time our responsibilities in life had heaped over our heads, with our elder son Jayden being in his most active and attention seeking age, and she was second carrying. During these days I recollected the words of her seniors who had advised her 2 years back when she had decided to take Diploma instead of 3 year Course. They had very well warned and predicted to her regarding these miss happening she will have to face and the need to appear for another sets of exams.

But I found her prayerfully finding time when Jayden (our elder son) sleeps or at night or early in the Morning preparing for her exams with all positive hopes and faith.

One fine day Morning, just 10 days prior to exams, when I was at my Hospital, I received a call from Irene, telling me, she wanted a reading room for the next few days to read without disturbance. Staying in a rented house, in a busy city like Chennai, finding a place of our convenience was a challenging thought.

But without much delay in days, we could discover the Anna Centenary Library of Chennai, though it was 1 hour away from our residence, it helped her kick start her vigorous reading again. But later, things became bad again. As she was term pregnant mother, siting idle in a single place inside a library with restrictions in moving around, hydrating herself and bay inside her, became inconvenient for her due to the rule & regulations of the library. Thus within a few days she had to be back home, with no personal space to read without interruptions.

At Anna Centenary Library, Chennai.

But her hopes and prayers kept her moving. During the last 2 days, just before the exam, GEM Institute of Gastroenterology was her shelter to find a peaceful place to read. She managed to come with me to the hospital and sit in any empty patient’s room to prepare for the exam. We are always thankful to God since through this journey, God had strengthened our family members to be a strong support for us. We realize that, when we priorities rightly, many things will fall in place to happen.

Let me modify the Alchemist sayings as

For anyone who has understood the right calling in life, and chosen to do it, the whole universe conspires in order for you to achieve it !

To all youngsters who easily give up and remain depressed for small or big unexpected happenings in their life, Dr. Irene’s life is a moral. Not always in life we enjoy what we are worth to, or what we feel we deserve but we must find happiness in all such situations and prioritize our life based on what our life’s actual calling is. Once we begin to do that, ignoring peer pressures, God Almighty will bless us with happiness in the right time. Remain courageous in life and be prayerful to find the right direction in life. Roller coaster rides in life journey should not be a reason to give up. For any one who believe in Jesus Christ, always remember a verse ”

“Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid”

(John 14:26–27)

Few days After her exam.
Never Give up in life or be anxious. Have Faith. Remain positive minded. Most importantly never be moved by peer pressures rather choose rightly based on your priorities.

  5. The concept of “Carrying Mother” evokes the deep emotional and physical burdens associated with motherhood. dawn gilbane work often explores themes of care, sacrifice, and the strength required in nurturing roles, which align with the idea of carrying the weight of motherhood. Her insights reflect the resilience and endurance that define a mother’s journey.
