PIVKA-II or AFP in HCC?

PIVKA-II (Protein Induced by Vitamin K Absence or Antagonism-II) and AFP (Alpha-Fetoprotein) are two biomarkers commonly used for the diagnosis and monitoring of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). While both can be elevated in HCC, they have distinct characteristics, strengths, and limitations. Here’s a comparison between the two:

Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is one of the most common primary liver cancers and often occurs in the setting of chronic liver disease, particularly cirrhosis and chronic viral hepatitis (HBV, HCV). Early detection and management of HCC are critical in improving patient outcomes. Gastroenterologists play a key role in the diagnosis and management of HCC, given their expertise in liver diseases. This article aims to provide a comprehensive overview of the radiological findings and management protocols for hepatocellular carcinoma, focusing on the role of gastroenterologists in early identification, assessment, and treatment.

Fatty Liver and Fibro Scan Camp

Fatty liver and fibro scan camp was organized from GEM Hospital Chennai, at Royal Enfield Research Center Chennai on 18-09-2024. Fatty liver and fibro scan camp was organized from GEM Hospital Chennai, at Royal Enfield Research Center Chennai on 18-09-2024. More than 75 employees were consulted and fibro scan was done. It enabled to detect new cases of fatty liver and promoted awareness on the same. Treatment was initiated for those indicated. Dr. Sanoop Kumar Sherin Sabu, from Medical Gastroenterology and Hepatology was the consultant in the camp.

Interpreting Fibro scan result

Dr. Sanoop Kumar Sherin Sbau speaks on Fibroscan interpretation. Fibroscan is a very useful non invasive tool for diagnosis Liver cirrhosis , fatty liver and early fibrosis. In patients in risk factors like diabetes, metabolic illness, obesity, hepatitis B or Hepatitis C infections, a fibroscan or fibrotouch should be performed to look for fatty liver/ fibrosis / cirrhosis.
